Get tested. It's easier than you think.

We offer FREE screening for HIV, Hepatitis C, syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia.

Testing is available at all office locations by appointment and walk-in. Testing sessions last about 30 minutes, sometimes a little longer.

What do we test for and how does it work?

HIV TESTING

Rapid HIV tests provide results in 20 minutes. Each test requires a drop of blood collected from a small finger prick (it doesn’t hurt, really!). Results are provided in the same session as your test.  All individuals receive both counseling before and after the test to ensure that they understand the meaning of the results and so they can discuss any risk factors that may be of concern.

When a rapid HIV test is positive, we perform an additional rapid test to confirm the result. For positive results, we have staff available to discuss what that means and to help you receive medical care to be healthy.

HEPATITIS C (Commonly called Hep C or HCV)

HCV is an infection that passes from person-to-person through contact with HCV positive blood.

You should get tested for Hep C if you:

  • Are a current or former drug user who used needles or shared needles to inject, even if you only did this one time or did it many years ago.

  • Have a sex partner who has chronic Hepatitis C or have had many sex partners.

Rapid HCV testing produces results within 20 minutes.  Just like the rapid HIV test, a single drop of blood is required.  A positive result must be confirmed by additional laboratory tests.

SYPHILIS

Syphilis is on the rise in Virginia and around the nation. Rapid syphilis testing requires a finger stick and test results are available in 10 minutes.

Please note: If you have ever been diagnosed with syphilis in the past, the rapid syphilis test CANNOT be used because it is not able to distinguish between a new or old infection.  If you have never been diagnosed with syphilis then the rapid syphilis test will work for you.

GONORRHEA / CHLAMYDIA

It’s as simple as providing a urine sample in a cup.  Samples are sent off to a laboratory for processing which takes about 7-10 days for results to be returned. We’ll discuss your symptoms and if you are symptomatic, we can prescribe treatment right away.

Treatment is as simple as getting a shot and/or a one-time dose of two pills from your primary care doctor or from the health department.
